Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Siem Reap - Angkor Wat (L/D)

Arrive in Siem Reap and be met by your local English speaking guide, who will help you to your hotel to settle in. In the afternoon, begin your exploration of the Angkorian temples. Built in the 12th century, the Angkor Wat was built to resemble Mount Meru, home of the gods. The temple took over 30 years to build and is decorated by more than 300 Apsara dancers. Your visit coincides with the ‘Golden Hour’, to ensure you capture the Apsaras at their gleaming best.

Day 2Siem Reap - Angkor Wat - Ta Prohm - Angkor Thom - Siem Reap (B/L/D)

Wake early this morning to catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat and the rays of light glinting over the five iconic towers. Then head to Ta Prohm, unique in that it has largely been left overgrown by the jungle. Drive to Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire, surrounded by 8m tall walls. Next stop is Preah Pithu, a temple largely missed by tourists, but a bonus for photographers.

In the late afternoon, enjoy a relaxing cruise in a gondola paddle boat in the moat of Angkor Thom whilst watching the spectacular sunset over the Prasat Chroung temple. Finish the day with a visit to the McDermott Gallery to see the latest photo exhibition, followed by dinner at the Foreign Correspondent’s Club (the FCC).

Day 3Siem Reap - Tonle Sap - Roluos - Angkor Thom - Siem Reap (B/L/D)

After an early breakfast, depart for a boat ride on Tonle Sap lake, the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. Then board a local boat and visit Kampong Phluck, a village sitting on stilts above the water.

On your return, visit the Roluos area and explore the paddy fields and sugar palm trees, culminating in a private blessing at the Roluos Pagoda.

Late afternoon, return to Angkor Thom to catch the golden hour at Bayon Temple, the exact centre of the city with 54 towers representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire.

Day 4Siem Reap - Preah Dak - Chau Srei Vibol - Siem Reap (B/L/D)

Depart for the village of Preah Dak to explore the quiet, local market before seeing the gem of the Angkor area, the picturesque temple of Banteay Srei, one of the best preserved in Cambodia. Head through the countryside to Chau Srei Vibol, a hilltop temple that has collapsed in on itself and sees few visitors, so is perfect for photographers. In the evening, make the most of your last evening in Siem Reap with an Aspara show at Fou-Nan restaurant (NB: the show is performed on Mon/ Wed/ Fri and more frequently in peak months).
